The Institute for Psychotherapy and Psychotraumatology (IPP) is dedicated to advancing research in psychotherapy and trauma studies and developing culturally sensitive treatment approaches tailored to the needs of communities in Iraq and the wider region. Our work integrates interdisciplinary knowledge from medicine, psychology, biology, and the social sciences, further enriched by a transcultural understanding of trauma and healing.

The institute also provides comprehensive postgraduate education, enabling participants to combine academic training with professional accreditation. IPP aims to establish a full training pathway, including a one-year Preparatory Program and a two-year Master’s Program in Psychotherapy and Psychotraumatology. Training follows German examination standards for psychology-based psychotherapy and includes extensive clinical practice in refugee camps, hospitals, and community settings across the Kurdistan Region of Iraq. Teaching, supervision, and professional development are delivered by experts from both Germany and Iraq.

Expansion of IPP Programs

Since 2020, IPP has expanded its work through several key projects designed to address urgent mental-health needs on the ground. These projects strengthen access to trauma-informed care, crisis response, and long-term psychosocial support for displaced individuals, survivors of violence, and vulnerable communities.
