Special Online Training for Mental Health Specialists in Syria

In response to the impact of the earthquake on February 6, 2023, The institute of Psychotherapy and Psychotraumatolohgy at the University of Duhok in coordination with the institute of Transcultural and Health Sciences in DHBW University organized an online training program from 13 to 17 October 2024 to support mental health professionals working in affected areas of Syria.

The training program aims at strengthening the mental health network and provide awareness and capacity building for the mental health professional in both areas.

The five-day program is designed for psychologists, social workers, psychiatrists, child development specialists, and other relevant mental health professionals. Conducted in English and Arabic, the course covers key topics such as trauma intervention, emergency psychology, psychosocial care for children, and narrative exposure therapy. On the other hand, IPP local lectures team and clinic staff delivered the topics.

Participants were attended from different fields and area in Syria, which was unlimited participation, however, about40 participants have attended the training.

In nutshell, this collaborative effort aims to enhance the capacity of healthcare workers, fostering long-term psychological resilience and trauma care in the affected region.
